Department of Civil Engineering

The Civil engineering course was started in the year 1983 with 60 students and 3 staff members.Construction is the fourth largest sector of global economy next only to food, healthcare & IT. India’s construction industry which is providing livelihood to almost 10% of its population is the second largest occupation after agriculture yielding cross annual business value of nearly Rs 240,000 crores.

Due to the economical liberalization and knowledge based economy, our country has the potential for attracting very big business giants to start industries in India which leads to providing infrastructure facilities such as roads, Air-ports, buildings, malls etc. These will fetch lot of employment opportunities to the civil engineers.

Lab Facilities

Our Department has well equipped separate Labs with latest and modern equipments in surveying, Material testing, Hydraulics and CAD

In Surveying – Total station, GPS.
In computer lab – Software such as STRUDS, CAD, MS-Project.
In Material Testing – Autoclave apparatus, Direct shear, Air’s permeability apparatus.

Activities

Students are taken to an outside location every year for Survey Camp. It is fully a residential Camp for 5 days.Every semester we take the students to field visit, site visit and Industrial visits relevant to their subjects. Some of our students participated in the paper presentation competition and won prizes.Our students also took part in the exhibition conducted in our college in Jan 2005. We also improve the student’s communication skills through seminars and group discussion within their class. We are doing material testing for various outside construction companies and departments.
